It can also be a great way to find new wines, producers or vintages you may not have tried before. When you have one of these parties it can take many different forms. You can focus on specific wines with different cheeses and foods. You can also focus your wine tasting party for specific reds, whites or even certain wine producers and vintages. The possibilities are endless, but the event is sure to be a hit with everyone on the guest list.

One great idea for throwing a wine tasting party is the price point method. With the price point method, you choose a featured wine, say pinot noir wines and choose several bottles within a set price range, like $20-30 a bottle. This type of party gives you the chance to try some wines that you may not have thought of before.

At a horizontal wine tasting party you focus on a variety of wine from a particular year, but from multiple producers. This is a lot of fun. Say you choose a 2003 pinot noir variety for your party. You will also grab a 2003 pinot noir from several other producers for your party. It’s a great way to different wines from many different producers. You might also find a producer you may not have known about. This type of party is a lot of fun and is sure to wow your friends with your extensive knowledge of wine.

A vertical party is when you throw a wine tasting party using just one variety of wine from the same producer with different vintages. If you have a favorite wine producer and varietal, this is a great way to try different vintages and learn about some that you may have previously been unaware of. With a vertical party, you always choose wines from the same producer with differing vintages and probably price tags, as well. It can introduce you to a producer you may not have known about or even enlighten you on different vintages from a producer you particularly like. This type of party is a lot of fun and is sure to please the crowd.

When you throw your wine tasting party, you need to provide your guests with a score card. Generally the score card should have areas for the name of the wine, the type of wine, the producer of the wine, the vintage and the price of the bottle. Also provide an area for comments on clarity, color, viscosity, taste, smell and an overall rating at the the very least.
